- How to utilise the space in a small bathroom
A modern bathroom is a perfect space for relaxing and de-stressing after a long day. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to have an unlimited amount of space. Therefore, choosing the right lighting, colours, as well as fixture and fittings will help to make the most out of the smallest of rooms.
We are here to give you some tips to enable you to maximise your bathroom’s space. If you follow these tips it will give your room a feel of luxury, with all the functioning essentials you need.
Choosing the right colours for the walls will help to prevent the room from feeling dingy and cramped. A bathroom designer would pick pale and light colours, however, would not overcompensate and use an array of colours. If you do feel like your bathroom design needs several colours then think about making one wall a feature, full of colour.
Creating a cluttered room will automatically make the room feel smaller. Therefore, filling the space correctly with storage will be a step in the right direction. Firstly, within your bathroom design use the space around the sink to fit in a cupboard which can hide away your toiletries. A bathroom fitting specialists would be able to install a towel rack, you can neatly place them away whilst keeping them at arms reach, it can also double up as a heat source too.
Hanging baskets can be placed onto the door to create added storage, shampoos and conditioners can be placed in these giving the whole family their own space. Be creative and get younger children to decorate there’s, this will give them added reason to keep their belongings tidy.
Mirrors are key to creating the feeling of space, positioning your mirror strategically next to the window, will reflect the light perfectly around the room. Moreover, you could arrange several mirrors to give the room an artistic touch.
To utilising the space of your bathroom traditional hinged doors should not be included in your bathroom design as it removes a lot of space when they are open. Therefore, sliding doors will not only provide the floors with protection from the water, being able to see through to the wall will help to make your bathroom look bigger and keep cleaning simple.
If you need any more information on how to effectively use your space, our bathroom room specialists are able to answer all your questions. Do not hesitate to call us on 01226 210 704 or 07414 579 381. http://plumbyorkshire.blogspot.com/2018/08/how-to-utilise-space-in-small-bathroom.html

Step 1: Clear out old bathroom
Before the new bathroom installation can begin, the existing bathroom will need to be pulled out completely which will include the tiles. The clearing out stage will also include the removal of lead and old pipework in addition to the old bathroom fittings. A quick reminder to place down quality dust sheets to ensure the floor outside the bathroom is protected.
Step 2: Placement of bathroom fittings and fixtures
The next step will be to work out where in your new bathroom you want the main bathroom fittings to go. This will include things such as the bathtub or shower, the toilet and the sink. It is important to understand their location, as you will need to determine where to run the plumbing lines.
We would recommend detailed drawings with dimensions on to use as a guide.
Step 3: Instructions
It is always advisable to read the instruction booklet as it will often contain a number of handy tips required for bathroom installation. It should also include helpful information on maintenance.
Step 4: Planning Plumbing Pipe Routes
This is considered to be one of the more complex stages of bathroom installation. There are two main things to remember. Firstly, that the high-pressure pipes are responsible for bringing water into the home and secondly, the PVC waste lines that are used carry water out. Homes nowadays will have shut off valves to easily turn off the water supply and they will also help to remove air from the water lines.
When considering water planning for your new bathroom fitting it is important to bear in mind, how fresh water gets to various parts of the home and the second feature to consider when water-mapping will be to figure out the process of water return.
Step 5: Tiling

- A guide to creating the ideal family bathroom
It’s sometimes hard to get the balance in creating a bathroom which is both attractive and conventional for all the family. The family bathroom in the morning and at night time can be the busiest room in the house, within this blog we try to give you tips on enhancing the functionality and safety of the bathroom for the whole family.
Is there anything worse than a damp towel? Yes, a damp towel that’s been left on the floor. With a long heated tower rail, there will be no excuses for leaving wet items on the floor as all family members will be able to find a spot for their towels. Larger than the average rail, the longer version will keep your bathroom warm throughout the cold winter mornings.
When small children are using the bathroom it’s likely that the floor will get very wet for a period of time, so choosing the flooring is vital from preventing any injuries. Ceramic tiles or vinyl are popular due to the non-slip action they create but also they come in a range of colours and patterns, so you’re able to match them with other fittings. These floorings are very easy to clean too, so if any foreign liquid is spilt onto them, cleaning will be easy.
Be creative with your fittings, no matter how big or small your bathroom is there are many inventive storage fittings in which you can use to make the most out of your space. Wall hung storage is ideal for any family, and stringed bags with suction cups attached to wall tiles are useful items to keep all of the bath toys out of the way.
Tired of queuing for the sink? Install a double basin to speed up the morning routine with no more waiting, and consider extra storage underneath for all those essentials.
Eco Toilet and Eco Shower Head
Buying eco-friendly fittings has become more popular in recent years, as they will save you money on energy and water bills. An eco flush system uses less than half a litre worth of flush each time, whilst an eco shower head will save you up to 30% on the normal shower usage. A family household will see the difference in their water bill each month by choosing eco-friendly solutions.
People implement handle-less furniture throughout the kitchen to prevent the children from hurting themselves, this can now be done throughout the bathroom. Furniture fitted with a press system removes the need for handles, just press the cupboard and it will open. Not only will this keep your child safe, it’ll put your mind at ease.

- Top Tips for Finding the Perfect Bathroom Supplier
A new bathroom is the type of home improvement that totally transforms your property, so make the right decision with your choice of specialist to achieve a flawless finish. Fail to do this and it can be a costly mistake, as you end up fixing minor niggles or major faults caused by shoddy workmanship, before wishing you’d looked harder when you were choosing a bathroom specialist.
Whether you are ripping out a family bathroom or want to install a stylish new en-suite, you have to make the room work for you, and find a fitter to perform the work to the best possible standards. With so many tradesmen around, it pays to be a little picky when you are choosing this person, and you won’t go far wrong if you think about the following.
When you are having a new bathroom fitted the quality of finish is everything, and this can be achieved by choosing a bathroom specialist that has many years of experience in the industry, a person that takes great pride in the standard of their work. It’s the little details that make projects work, and as well as industry accreditations, the length of time the fitter has been working in the industry can be a key indicator as to whether you should hire them or not.
Can they provide FREE quotes, Planning and Design Services?
Before you commit to anything, it’s a sensible precaution to establish the level of service provided by the bathroom fitter so you can plan the project accordingly and have a good idea of what this includes. Ideally, you want a total package that covers everything, including all aspect of planning and design, with free, no-obligation quotes, so you have a realistic idea of how much everything is going to cost from the beginning to end.
Is their work guaranteed?
Would you hire a bathroom fitter if they couldn’t provide you with any type of guarantee for the work they have completed in the past? This would be a foolhardy approach, as you never know what glitches might occur with the bathroom in the future, so ideally you want to hire tradesmen prepared to follow-up on any work that might be required, and make good on repairs.
Do they offer finance options?
A new bathroom is a major expense, and many people find that finance options are a good way to pay for this level of work, helping to spread the cost of the work. Not every company offers this though, and that can result in you having to find finance elsewhere, which can be a nuisance if you are keen to move forward with the project. If you don’t want to use up all of your savings, flexible payment options could the way forward, so find out if the bathroom specialists have a finance option, or can point you in the right direction if not.
Here at Plumb, we can offer all of the above facilities and so much more. Don’t hesitate to contact us today if you would like a free quote for a new bathroom installation in Barnsley, Sheffield or Yorkshire.

- How to Make Your Bathroom all Christmassy This Year
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner and we’ll soon be decking our halls with boughs of holly and putting the fairy on top of the tree. Whilst it’s fun to decorate the home at this time of the year, one area that is often neglected is the bathroom, and this is such a shame. Do things differently this year. As the season of goodwill begins, consider how you are going to dress your bathroom and consider these options to have a jolly holiday.
Add a festive scent
Step foot inside the bathroom and enjoy the wonderful aroma of Christmas by placing scented diffusers inside the room. You can light a few scented candles and make the bathroom look cosy and inviting whilst making it smell nice at the same time. House Beautiful has listed 11 of the best-scented candles
this year, so there’s no excuse for your bathroom not to smell wonderful.
Use themed bath bombs
Display Christmas themed bath bombs and soaps in your bathroom to create a feeling of seasonal cheer. Bath bombs come in many different styles and you’ll find loads of different Christmas themes online. Stores like Lush specialise in festive products and you can browse their current collection of Christmas bath bombs
online and get your bathroom ready for Xmas this way.
Play Christmas music
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a little festive music, so why not place a radio in your bathroom and listen to all those classic songs and have a sing-a-long to put you in the seasonal spirit? Whether you have classic carols playing in the background, or a medley of the most memorable Christmas songs, it’ll add a bit of cheer to your bathroom this year.
Spray the windows
Use snow spray on your bathroom windows to give them a frosty appearance and coordinate with the Christmas theme. You might not see any of the white stuff on Christmas Day this year, but at least you can pretend it’s been snowing outside by spraying your windows with fake flakes instead. You can add a few temporary festive stencils to the walls as well to add to the effect.
Decorate a tree (a small tree, not a large one!)
Miniature Christmas trees look gorgeous on bathroom ledges and you can drape them in colourful battery operated fairy lights to make the room even more festive. Imagine walking into the bathroom to be greeted by the sight of a mini spruce looking all lovely and seasonal? How fabulously festive!
There are many ways to decorate your bathroom for Christmas, so please don’t neglect this important room at this time of the year. Whether you hang a festive wreath on the door, dangle mistletoe from the ceiling, or buy festive toilet seat covers, bath mats, or shower curtains, you can create the perfect Christmas theme inside your bathroom.

- How to Maximise Bathroom Storage
It’s exciting when you are planning a new bathroom design. As you look at different shower types, decide where you are going to put the toilet, and weigh up various bathtub styles, it’s easy to overlook one key element and forget about storage. This might be right at the bottom of your list of priorities, but it’s a vital part of any good bathroom design. Work this into your project, and you’ll have a bathroom that looks amazing, is very functional, and has plenty of places to keep bits and bobs. To assist you, we list a few suggestions for the best bathroom storage solutions.
Bespoke shelving units are useful items to have inside a bathroom. They look good and create a handy storage solution for things like towels. Roll them up or fold them flat and place individual towels on different shelves, or simply use the shelves for storing other items instead. The beauty of bespoke shelving units is you can fit them to the exact dimensions of your bathroom so you make use of all the available space inside the room.
Utilise wall space if you want to maximise as much room as possible inside your bathroom. Wall cabinets make full use of these areas and can be used to store a wealth of items, including bars of soap, tubes of toothpaste, and a host of other toiletries. Get organised and choose a wall cabinet that suits the style and theme of the bathroom. Wall cabinets make use of dead space and they can add instant appeal to the interior design.
Sink cabinets are available in a huge choice of colours and sizes so perfect for any bathroom setting. They can be freestanding or wall hung and come in traditional or contemporary designs. You can really make the most of your bathroom with these practical and stylish features. Choose an elegant design with sliding drawers, a cupboard underneath, or a mixture of drawers and cupboard space.
Another way to utilise dead space inside a bathroom is to install a towel rail on the wall. Heated towel rails are a good option if you want to keep towels dry and warm. There are also towel rings, multi-tiered racks, freestanding towel ladders and towel stackers available, offering plenty of space for up to five standard size towels at any given time. If you always run out of towels in the bathroom, fit a rail and keep spares there.
Think carefully and you’ll discover plenty of ways to maximise bathroom storage, why not incorporate this into the original design? If you need help with the design and want a bathroom fitting in Yorkshire to the highest possible standards, contact us
here at Plumb today, or call us on 01266 210704

- Luxury Bathroom Must-Haves
One of the best things about transforming your bathroom is you can make it as luxurious as you like and create the perfect haven. As well as optimising the space available and making the room more practical, you can really go to town with the accessories and add a splash of luxury where you like.
There’s no shortage of luxury features for bathrooms, so if you are remodelling your home this year and want to create a bathroom to die for, here are some suggestions you might want to use.
Space permitting, you could fit double sinks in a bathroom or en-suite room so both you and your partner have a sink each. Imagine the freedom and flexibility this would offer you, and how much time would you save not having to wait for the sink to be free? Separate sinks, each with their own mirror above, would certainly enhance the look and functionality of your bathroom.
Free-standing roll-top bath
Can you think of anything better than taking a leisurely bathe in a soapy tub filled with wonderfully warm water? A free-standing bath with taps fitted to the side would give you the freedom and flexibility to soak away aches and pains as you totally recline and let the warm water ooze all over you. A luxury bath could be the focal feature of your room and you could spend many a happy hour lazing away the moments inside your tasteful tub.
Shower enclosures are other feature statements found in the most luxurious bathrooms. Step into a spacious shower enclosure, turn on the power, and let the shower head pelt you with a refreshing barrage of skin-tingling water. A stylish shower enclosure will complement your lavish bathtub and if you have enough room, this is one bathroom feature you really need to consider.
Luxury cabinets don’t just look good, they are very practical too, and enable you to hide objects away you don’t want in public view. Whether you store make-up, towels or toilet rolls inside the cabinets, you can do so in style and invest in good looking cabinets - features within their own right. Carefully choose your cabinets to match the theme and style of the room.
Think carefully about the lighting inside your bathroom and this will create the perfect mood inside the room. You could have designer lighting fitted above vanity areas or subtle mood lighting in specific locations to set the ideal tone when you take a dip in the tub. If you want to go full-on lavish, consider a designer pendant light, or how about a smallish chandelier in the heart of the room, surely that would add a touch of class? By carefully planning the lighting, and adding attractive features to the room, you will make your bathroom chic, stylish and ever-so desirable.
These are just a few suggestions for you to think about if you are remodelling your bathroom this year. At Plumb, we’re the bathrooms experts so don’t hesitate to contact us

- The Key Advantages of Bathroom Renovations
Is it really worth the effort of renovating your old bathroom and replacing it with something that is stylish, sophisticated, and blessed with a cutting-edge design? You bet it is! Don’t be fooled into thinking a bathroom renovation is more hassle than it’s worth, nothing could be further from the truth.
Updating your bathroom is a genuine investment and you’ll soon reap the rewards of this action. Okay, there might be a little upheaval along the way but when you see the results and feel the benefits, you’ll wish you had done this sooner.
New bathroom installations have so many advantages, many of which you won’t even realise until the project is completed. Let us explain in more detail here at Plumb, and find out the real reasons you should consider a bathroom renovation in the not too distant future.
Think of the added value
A new bathroom not only adds the wow factor to your home, it can also provide you with a healthy return on investment. Leading financial website This is Money
estimate home improvements such as bathroom renovations add genuine value to your home, with an average return on investment of 48%.
They claim independent research by the HSBC concluded a new bathroom can add £3,500 to the price of a property, so this can be money well spent, especially if you work to a strict budget during the design and installation process.
Improve the user experience
How functional is your bathroom at the moment? If a number of people are using it, does it suit all of their requirements? Some people prefer showers, others like baths, not everyone is the same. When you update the bathroom this gives you the golden opportunity to enhance the usability of the bathroom so it fulfils everyone’s aims and objectives. Redesign the bathroom and you can introduce new features to the environment that improve the user-experience such as touch panel showers and sensors for lights. With a little thought, it’s easy to create a stunning environment that is perfect for each individual user and provides the perfect pampering zone.
Enrich the environment
During a bathroom renovation, you have the design scope to make this setting as luxurious as you like. When you consider how much time you spend in the bathroom, it’s worth paying close attention to each individual feature, so you can enjoy a luxury setting and be proud of the room. With very little effort and a clever design scheme, you can create a swishy spa setting in no time and enjoy a lavish environment that feels luxurious, indulgent, and ever so inviting.
Meet your energy saving goals
One thing you might not think about when you are designing a new bathroom is the energy saving features. It’s easy to overlook this but if you spare a few thoughts in the initial design stages, you can certainly make huge savings in the long term whilst meeting your energy saving goals. Overall energy costs can be dramatically reduced if you install water saving features in the bathroom, these can include:
- High-efficiency shower heads
- Tap regulators
- Dual-flush toilets
LED lighting will also reduce energy costs and this is something you might want to consider if you are installing feature lighting as part of your bathroom renovation.
As you can see, there are significant benefits to bathroom renovations and there’s no time like the present to put the wheels in motion for your bathroom makeover. - The Most Common Types of Plumbing Repairs
Every household experiences a problem with plumbing at some point. Unless you are experienced at DIY, it’s a sensible precaution to call a trained tradesman if you are experiencing difficulties. This way they can fix the fault with the minimum amount of disruption to you. Plumbing problems can vary greatly. To give you some idea of the types of faults that can cause issues in your bathroom, we list the most common issues here. When your tap starts to drip this isn’t just annoying, it can also waste water which can prove to be costly due to an increase in your water bill. Don’t ignore it if you notice your taps are dripping. Call a plumber and get them to fix the leaking tap. You could attempt this yourself but we’d recommend calling an experienced plumber for your own peace of mind. If you notice small pools of water in your bathroom and you haven’t taken a bath or a shower this could indicate a leaking pipe. Pipes are prone to leaking during the cold winter months but it could also be the sign of joint failure. Obviously, this can be quite serious if left unattended and it also could cause fresh damage inside your home. Therefore, it’s best to fix this type of fault once it becomes apparent.
Release the water in a basin or a bath by pulling the plug and if the water is slow to run away this could indicate a blockage in the waste water pipe. If you have tried using drain cleaners to no avail and you are worried about taking the pipe apart, call a plumber and let them clear the obstruction to leave your pipes in perfect working order.
This has to be one of the worst problems to experience in your bathroom. If you have ever tried to unblock a toilet you’ll know this isn’t for the faint-hearted. Don’t sweat it if your toilet will not flush, it has continually running water, or it seems to have some type of blockage. An expert plumber will soon have everything clear and working as it should. Older types of properties can struggle with low water pressure. This will require further investigation to find the root cause of the problem. A trickling showerhead could be fixed by a replacement unit for example, or you might have a leak somewhere that you haven’t spotted yet. Get in touch with a plumbing service who can tell you where the fault is, what you need to do to fix it, and how much it will cost you to put everything right. These are just some of the more obvious problems you might experience in your bathroom. Should you require repairs or bathroom installations in Barnsley, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us here at Plumb by calling 01226 210704. http://plumbyorkshire.blogspot.com/2017/03/the-most-common-types-of-plumbing.html

- How to Fool People into Thinking Your Bathroom is Bigger than it is!
We install bathrooms of all sizes here at Plumb Yorkshire, offering tailored solutions designed and installed to the unique requirements of our customers. Over the years, we have created countless bathroom solutions that make smaller rooms seem larger than they actually are. If your home has a smaller bathroom, and there’s no scope to extend the room or you simply don’t have the budget to do this right now, there are still things you can do to make the room feel larger than it actually is. Try these suggestions to make a smaller bathroom feel like a palatial pampering zone! Take advantage of natural light
Incorporate as much natural light as you can into the bathroom to reduce the impression of it being a dark, cramped and rather confined space. Install a larger bathroom window and this can be a useful way to make the room more inviting. Instead of covering the window with blinds or other window dressings, leave it bare and utilise frosted glazing to retain privacy within the room.
Paint the walls a lighter colour
Dark colours decrease the feeling of space within a room and can make them feel a little claustrophobic. Think carefully before choosing colour schemes for your bathroom. Paler shades actually make the room look a lot bigger than it is. Bright and light tones such as white, sky blue or creams will give the room a feeling of space. Use tones wisely to deceive the eye.
Keep clutter to a minimum
Cut back on clutter in your bathroom if you are worried about space. Think about the items you have on display in the bathroom and consider whether you actually need to keep these products in there. You could keep spare towels in bedroom closets for instance, or store hairdressing products in dressing tables and chests of drawers. Simply take them into the bathroom when you want to use them and remove them again afterward.
Use mirrors to enhance the feeling of space
A large bathroom mirror fitted to a wall inside a smaller bathroom adds a feeling of depth inside the room. Replace smaller mirrors with large feature mirrors that make the room look twice the size. Do this and you create the feeling of a light, bright, flowing space.
Many smaller bathrooms have showers fitted over the bath to free up room. This is a practical solution, just be careful not to overcrowd the room by fitting a bold shower curtain which can act as a physical barrier. One way to avoid doing this is to install a glass shower screen. Glass screens prevent water from spraying over the floor when you take a shower but leave a clear view of the tub and the tiles behind.
Regardless of the size of your bathroom, we can install a first-class solution for you here at Plumb that’s practical, stylish, and makes great use of the space available.

Evidence would suggest that cold showers are actually good for you and by taking one on a regular basis there are significant health benefits. We wouldn’t be brilliant bathroom specialists if we didn’t have a passion for showers at Plumb Yorkshire, so let our team reveal to you why taking a chilly shower isn’t as crazy as it seems. What are the advantages of cold showers? Have a shower early in the morning and this is the ideal way to awaken the senses and get you ready for the day ahead. Turn the temperature down a little in the shower and you really will notice your senses come alive. Icy cold water shocks the system. It makes you breathe deeper, increasing your oxygen intake and speeding up your heart rate. Your mind and body are fully awakened by this reaction and you step out of the shower feeling totally clean, fully refreshed, and ready to take on anything that life throws at you today. Your circulation is improved Having a cold shower is good for circulation which can help to make you healthier. As the cold water hits your skin your body works harder sending blood to vital organs in a bid to keep them warm. There is a direct increase in circulation around the body, endorphins are released, and this is great news for your heart as it improves cardiovascular performance. Tough it out and that daily shower could be just what your circulation needs. Cold showers lighten your mood
Hydrotherapy has been known to relieve the symptoms of depression. The cold jets of water act as a stimulant for the brain, triggering the primary source of Norepinephrine. This is a hormone naturally produced by the body with the primary function to heighten arousal. If you have low Norepinephrine you feel tired with little interest in life. Nikolai A. Shevchuk stakes a claim for the benefits of a cold shower as a potential treatment for depression
in his thesis. He argues they are good for stimulating the brain.
They also aid muscle recovery Athletes and sporting professionals take ice baths after intensive training sessions so take a daily ice cold shower if you want to recover in less time. Not only will it improve your circulation, it could also remove some lactic acid, and your muscles will reap the rewards. Recovering from workouts could be easier in the future if you can brave a cold shower. There you go - just a few benefits of cold showers. - Start a Shower Installation This Way
Have a bathroom update and this provides you with the perfect opportunity to install a new shower. It makes sense to replace the shower as part of your bathroom makeover, and you can have a little fun playing around with the design and the new layout of the room. As one of the experts in bathroom installations, we understand the intricacies involved when you consider a new bathroom design here at Plumb Yorkshire and know all about the thought process that goes behind it. Should you be considering installing a new bathroom this year, and need a little inspiration when it comes to shower suggestions, you might want to consider some of the following base elements.
The space you have inside your bathroom will be important when you are planning a new design. The less room you have to play with the more creative you have to be so you can squeeze all the features you want inside.
If space is an issue, consider fitting a shower over the bath. Or if you have the room to install a shower cubicle but worry about it taking up too much room in the bathroom, a folding shower door can be a sensible compromise that’s less intrusive.
There are different types of shower options available to suit all homeowner requirements. Only you will know which one works best for your home, these are the main options to consider:
· Standard shower enclosure
· Wet Room
Typically, if the shower is going to be installed inside a family bathroom you should have more room to play with. For en suite bathrooms, space might be restricted. In this instance, do away with the bath and just have a shower cubicle, washbasin and WC instead.
Unless you are installing a wet room, the chances are you will be considering a base to go with your shower cubicle to help prevent leaks and contain water before it drains away. Make sure you check the size of the shower tray if you buy this separately from the cubicle.
The good thing about shower bases is they now come in a choice of sizes and styles, with different types of materials available. Take a look at some of the trendier porcelain and acyclic trays that are currently available. You will find them in all sorts of shapes including:
· Freestanding and offset styles
Features and Functions
Complete shower systems should be equipped with everything you need to step in, lather up and feel the cares of the world melt away. This is fine, as long as you understand how to operate the features and the functions of the shower, and know which setting does what and when.
Explore different types of taps and mixer heads, along with the functionality of the system controls to ensure you enjoy a carefree shower the first time you use your new bathroom suite.
When choosing shower heads, look for these features:
Settings and spray pattern
· Mounting - handheld, fixed, pivot mounted etc
Type of Flooring
Shower and bathroom flooring is a key aspect to any home makeover. It’s unlikely you are going to consider carpeting your bathroom for practical purposes. Most homeowners choose tiles in bathrooms and wetrooms which prove to be popular for their looks, performance and ease of maintenance.
Key factors to consider when you are looking for bathroom flooring are:
Making over a bathroom is an exciting process, as long as you consider the main points when you are installing a new shower you’ll create the bathroom of your dreams with ease.

- Prepare Your Bathroom for a New Flooring Installation
Installing a new bathroom, and floor, is a feat that requires adequate preparation if you’re going to be successful. Taking extra time to ensure you have everything properly planned and prepared will save you so much time, money and resources for when your bathroom is being installed. There are a few essential things you’ll need to factor into the preparation for your new bathroom flooring to maximise the chances of success.
Remove your bathroom toilet
Before you start installing your new bathroom flooring, you’ll need to make sure that your toilet is safely out of the way. Some people will attempt to install the new flooring around the toilet but this leads to problems later on for the vast majority of people. It’s a far better idea to just remove your toilet and reinstall it back on top of the new flooring when you’re done.
Remember to turn off the water before you unhook the toilet’s supply line. At this point, put something under your toilet and remove it from your bathroom. Until you’re ready to replace your toilet, remember to use something to cover the drain whilst you work.
Remove your current bathroom flooring
Before being able to proceed with installing your new bathroom, you’ll need to remove your old bathroom flooring. Pre-existing tile or vinyl on a concrete floor will need to be pulled up, and tile can be difficult at times.
Tile bathroom flooring is installed with an adhesive that sets like concrete, so you’ll need to chip it up with a hammer and chisel.
If your old bathroom floor is vinyl on a concrete subfloor, a sharp scraper blade can be used to scrape it up from the floor.
By making the floor slightly wet, you can loosen the adhesive, making your job easier. Before and after you take up your old flooring, ensure that the floor is clean.
HardieBacker boards are specially designed water-resistant cement backerboard to install over your timber floorboards. To ensure that your new bathroom floor installation is the best it can be, using a high quality backerboard will vastly improve the quality of your floor. HardieBacker board is so popular with professional plumbers because:
- · HardieBacker boards are made from cement, meaning it can allow the proper bonding of the tile and board. Even in the wettest conditions, it doesn’t swell, rot or delaminate like plywood.
- · HardieBacker comes in measurements specially designed to minimise the transitions between floors.
- · Natural stone, ceramic and vinyl tiles can all be used with HardieBacker easily.
- · HardieBacker is incredibly lightweight. It can be cut incredibly easily with just a single score and snap.
- · Under floor heating can be used in conjunction with HardieBacker boards.
Ideally you should’ve spent some time designing the layout for your new bathroom floor, especially if you’re using tiles. A diagram of how you plan to arrange your new bathroom floor will help you when you’re laying down the new floor. Another way to prepare your new bathroom is to lay down your new tiles without actually attaching them. This will give you the best chance to see how your new bathroom floor will look before it’s completed.
